Five days before the Super Bowl, Marvel Studios released a teaser for The Avengers commercial to be broadcast during the game.
The video was released as part of a Twitter chat on Tuesday afternoon between fans and Avengers director Joss Whedon, plus actors Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson).
Though much of the conversation was simply Whedon's trademark barbs — such as suggesting watching Steel Magnolias six times before seeing Avengers — some insight was shared.
When asked what Avengers character he would liked to have included in the film but didn't get a chance to, Whedon cited The Wasp, saying, "I'm a fan of the Wasp. She's goofy and sting-y." Whedon, again with a heavy amount of sarcasm, called the movie, "a combo platter: classic, Ultimate, plus a little Richie Rich & Mastering the Art of French Cooking." The director also shot down recent rumors of a Spider-Man cameo.
Jackson described the relationship between Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders, as "contentious." Gregg teased Coulson getting more in the mix by stating that "everybody sees more action in The Avengers," and left the chat by saying that he was, "Meeting some Skrull friends for lunch" — a joke that will surely fuel some amount of speculation as to famous Marvel aliens appearing in the film.
Hiddleston spoke of Loki's motivations in the movie, calling him, "More mischievous. More evil. More hubristic. More delusional. More damaged. More badass."
The Avengers is scheduled for release in theaters on May 4.Got a comment? There's lots of conversation on Newsarama's FACEBOOK and TWITTER!
