Image Comics is accelerating their digital comics distribution in two directions today. First, they'll be offering "the majority" of their comics digitally on the same day as print via the popular Comics by comiXology app, their own website, and their individual iOS App powered by comiXology.“Image Comics was one of the first to publish a comic the same day digitally as print with Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, and that turned out great for all involved,” said David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology in a press release. “With one of the most diverse selections, we are excited to power their digital initiatives as they publish more of their top comics digitally the same day as print.” But comiXology isn't Image's only digital expansion announced today. With a new partnership with Graphic.ly, another digital comic distributor, Image's reach expands to all iOS and Android platforms including the NOOKcolor and the upcoming Amazon Kindle Fire. Graphic'ly's new facebook-intergrated comic reader will also carry Image Comics. “For years, print comics have been dependent on a single distribution network, so it's interesting to be a position to utilize a variety of different digital platforms,” said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson in a press release. “As digital comics continue to become a greater concern, it's important to embrace as many different options as possible.” DC Comics went same-day digital across their entire line of comics with the launch of the "New 52" first issues in September 2011. Marvel Comics offers select same-day digital books, but had not announced plans to go linewide as yet.
