NEW COMICS DAY Twitterama YOU Review Comics! 05/18

There are some folks out there claiming that the world will end this Saturday — though that seems highly unlikely, consider it extra incentive to enjoy this New Comic Book Day just as much as all the others. Previews of this week's comics, including an exclusive look at Dynamite's Vampirella and the Scarlet Legion #1, are here.

For another take on this week's new releases, check out the always opinionated J. Caleb Mozzoco's weekly column ‘Twas the Night Before Wednesday… on Blog@Newsarama, checking out titles including The Adventures of Dr. McNinja Vol. 1: Night Powers and the somewhat surprising hardcover collection of Marvel miniseries Trouble.

Speaking of Marvel, their Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente co-written revival of Alpha Flight is kicking off in earnest with a Point One issue this week, to be followed up by a proper #1 a month from now. Also at Marvel, Chris Yost's "X-Men: First to Last" story gets thing started with X-Men Giant Size #1, and Avengers #13 ties into Fear Itself.

Booster Gold #44 is the return of Dan Jurgens to the series and a Flashpoint tie-in, said to be the only ongoing DC book to touch on that story while it's unfolding. Elsewhere at the publisher, Judd Winick is returning to his "Under the Red Hood" territory with Batman and Robin #23, the first part of the three chapter "The Streets Run Red."

Image Comics is debuting two new four-issue miniseries this week, Drums and Last Mortal. IDW has captured a good deal of buzz this week with Rocketeer Adventures #1, featuring a notable list of contributors including Kurt Busiek, John Cassaday, Mike Allred, and Mike Mignola; plus has a new issue of their latest Doctor Who miniseries.

The Best Shots crew has already reviewed Rocketeer Adventures #1 — plus Batman: Gates of Gotham #1 and

Deadlands: The Devil's Six Gun #1 here, but you know the familiar refrain: We want to hear from you! Your mission, if you choose to accept it: hit up your local comic book store, leave with a stack, then after reading your haul get on Twitter (Don't forget to follow us!), and let the world know your 140-character-or-less thoughts on this week's releases.
