The Boy of Steel is back in his own series after some legal mumbojumbo, a death and resurrection, and a writer known for his off-the-wall creator owned work taking the helm. But we're here to talk about the cover by Rafael Albuquerque. The cover, with stark primary colors and a pose that is equal parts excitement (yay! I'm not dead!) and strength (oh, and I have Superman's powers now, suckas!) leads with the iconic S shield and forces your eyes to see nothing but that great boyish grin in the end. Superboy #1
is a great cover, and earned the number one seed, riding that to a spot in the finals.
To say J.H. Williams III is a fan-favorite is not just stating the obvious, but probably understating it. His first shown work in a few months, and last of 2010, Batwoman #0
brings "more of the same" from the artist. It just happens that "the same" is incredible design sense, twisting iconic imagery, and a layer and rendering to the finished product that almost never fails to get a "wow" out of readers. The cover was the #2 seed in this tournament, and coasted to the finals (J.H. is also in the finals for favorite artist).
Now it's up to you to vote again.
Remember, you don’t
have to be a registered Newsarama reader
to participate. EVERYONE can help choose by picking one choice in each
of the below brackets. Again, there are two of them in the Semi-finals, so
keep going until you’ve voted in BOTH brackets. Voting for the Semi-finals
will remain open for 1 week.
Newsarama Note: Full methodology for nomination is below the polls.
10 Newsarama contributors submitted their lists for their personal
Top 20 in each of the five categories. The results were tabulated using a
weighted system that awarded an escalating number points according to
how high the nominee appeared on the list - 20th place was worth 1
point, 19th place 2 points ... up to 20 points for 1st place.
The final nominee lists are the top 16 nominees with the highest point totals in each category.
Each bracket is seeded according to point total, with the highest vote-getter in each bracket moving onto the next round.
will be 4 total rounds for each category (the “Sinister 16”, "Extremis
8", “Fantastic Four” and Finals) eventually resulting in one overall
“Favorite of 2010” for each group.
