DC Universe Online was delayed this fall from its November release date, and fans have been waiting since then to find out when it would finally hit the shelves. Well, wait no longer! On January 11, 2011 (1/11/11), players on PC and the PlayStation 3 can enter the DC Universe and become the next legend.
The game was delayed simply because Sony Online Entertainment and DC Entertainment "wanted to make it better," said Game Director Chris Cao in an interview with Newsarama at New York Comic-Con. To that end, the game has been playtested extensively in a private beta made up of people who pre-ordered the game and press. The beta has itself seen significant improvements implemented and is proving popular; in prime time hours there have been waits to get onto the limited server, showing those who are playing the game early want to play it often.
DCUO will retail for $59.99 for the PlayStation 3 and $49.99 for the PC. That price includes one month of gameplay, with a $14.99 monthly fee required to keep playing thereafter. SOE promises regular monthly updates, so even those who plow through the game's initial offerings will have new material to play every month. The game allows players to create their own hero or villain to fight alongside the iconic character of DC Comics, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Joker, and more.
