Post Game TV Recap: STAR WARS: CLONE WARS S3E8: Evil Plans

Party planning, Cad Bane, the Hutts, droid massages, and classic R2-D2 and C-3PO moments – how could these things be tied together?  Well, it's just another episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Episode 8, Evil Plans, takes us to some unexpected places in Coruscant.

Senator Padmé Amidala is having a dinner party.  She needs to make a good impression on the party's guest of honor, Senator Aang.  He holds the deciding vote on the military oversight committee, and he is apparently quite picky.  And you thought you were nervous about having your boss over for dinner.  She is stressed and upon realizing that the Senator's favorite dessert is missing a key ingredient, she turns to Anakin for help.  He sends  R2-D2 and C-3PO on the simple mission of going to the market to purchase jogan fruit for the party.

The two droids stroll into a well worn and dingy part of the city.  Not all of Coruscant is shiny silver after all.  They utterly fail at getting a good price for jogan fruit, but they obtain it.  Their entire walk is filled with wonderful R2-D2 and C-3PO banter and beeps.  With their mission accomplished, they head back to  Padmé's apartment.  They are sidetracked by a droid giving a marketing spiel about a fantastic droid maintenance spa.  Little do they know, the droid is Todo 360 and he was sent by Cad Bane.  R2-D2 finds the offer of getting transformed back to his fresh off-the-assembly-line self too appealing to refuse.  While he wheels off to the spa, C-3PO is droid-napped.

Cad Bane rigs C-3PO up and tries to electrocute the plans for the Senate building out of him.  While his dear friend is being tortured, R2-D2 is getting buffed and massaged by very friendly spa droids.  It doesn't take long for Bane to realize that the protocol droid he has captured doesn't have the plans.  C-3PO would be happy to provide Bane and his associates with etiquette lessons though.  The gold plated droid also might have given the bad guys the impression that R2-D2 would have the plans.  “Oh dear, oh dear.”

Freshly scrubbed, R2-D2 exits the maintenance spa and looks for his friend.  He spots the abandoned jogan fruit instead.  Todo 360 and his companions arrive at just the same time.  R2-D2 tries to trick them, but once they mention torturing C-3PO, he gives himself up.  It doesn't take long for Bane to extract the plans of the Senate.  He has the memories of the two droids wiped and returns them to the spot where they were kidnapped.

Bane takes the plans to his current employer, Jabba the Hutt.  He is paid a substantial amount of credits for completing the job.  Jabba immediately offers him further work.  Bane's services seems to be worth any amount of money.  The Hutt has to council with the other Hutt leaders before proceeding though.  We learn that they are the ones who want to break Ziro out of prison.  Cad Bane tells them that he is just the man for the job.

Back on Coruscant, R2-D2 and C-3PO return with the jogan fruit just in time to top off the cake and save the party from disaster.  C-3PO insists he doesn't remember why they were delayed.  Anakin seems like he wants to press more and figure out what happened, but Padmé is so happy that the dessert can be served (it's Senator Aang's favorite) that she asks Anakin to stop giving him a hard time.

Trivia & Notes

This episode falls into the timeline somewhere after the season 2 opener, Holocron Heist.

The baker droid who crafts the delectable jogan fruit cake is actually a baker!  Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes voiced the character.  The baker created an R2-D2 cake for the season 2 wrap party of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

If you haven't noticed by now, the voice actors for the show multi-task.  In this episode Matt Lanter, voice of Anakin Skywalker, also voices a droid in this episode.  He is the droid that calls Todo 360 a murderer.

Seth Green reprises his role as Bane's assistant Droid, Todo 360, from the aforementioned Holocron Heist.
