Marvel Entertainment Chairman Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter and his wife, Laura, are chipping in to reportedly donate more than 50 tons of food to their neighborhood's major food bank, as well as meals to some medical centers.
The Palm Beach Post reports that the Perlmutters, along with three other couples in the area, are donating "tons of food" to the Palm Beach County Food Bank each week - buying direct from Sysco Corp., a large food distribution company. According to the newspaper, the four couples plan to "continue the weekly deliveries until state and local economies start to stabilize, at least through the end of this month."
“We all believe it is so important to help our neighbors and support our local health care workers during this crisis,” said Laura and Ike Perlmutter in a joint statement to The Palm Beach Post.
According to the newspaper, the Palm Beach Food Bank provides food for roughly 200,000 residents - which going by the 2010 census count, would be roughly 15% of that county.
"As the number of hungry residents continues to grow at an alarming rate, we are in need of donations, now more than ever," the food bank's Executive Director Karren Erren said.
The four couples have also been providing meals from Wendy's to the area Good Samaritan and St. Mary's medical centers in the area since the beginning of April, according to the newspaper.
The plan is to distribute nearly 19,000 meals to both hospitals over the course of the next two months in cooperation with the Wendy’s casual food chain. Two of the men in the family partnership are on Wendy's board.
