DC's Chief Creative Officer/Publisher Jim Lee has created two more sketches for this ongoing 60-days, 60-sketches draw-a-thon auction to benefit comic shops. The latest two additions are group shots - Zealot and Grifter from WildC.A.T.S., and Dream and some of the Endless from The Sandman.
Grifter was chosen by the high-bidder on the Wonder Girl auction, and Lee took it upon himself to add Zealot.
"Went with a more understated approach to these old friends and played around with texture, composition and line weights," Lee wrote on Instagram.
Lee's Sandman was chosen by the winner of the Deadman auction, with some of his Endless family added "to give it a bit of a twist."
Lee has previously said the plan is to use these as variant covers to upcoming DC titles, and also collect them into a book of its own.
Lee's has now drawn 15 sketches for this initiative, in addition to several additional ones coming in from guest artists. To date, Lee's artwork has raised $143,336 in bids combined (before auction fees) with the Red Rain Batman topping out the bidding so far at $17,300.
All the proceeds will be donated to the comic book shop fund set up by the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC).
BINC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to assisting booksellers in need - including comic booksellers. In the past, BINC has offered financial assistance to comic book stores affected by natural disasters and other unexpected financial crises.
