Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is in talks to take the lead role in Netflix's film adaptation of the iconic video game Dragon's Lair, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Known for its humor and challenging puzzles, Dragon's Lair was released in 1983 and immediately stood out in arcades thanks to its Don Bluth-animated graphics, a very different style from what was common in video games of the time. Bluth went on to direct well-known 1980s animated films such as An American Tale, All Dogs Go To Heaven, and more.
Bluth and Goldman originally attempted to crowdfund a sizzle reel for a live-action film in 2015, though the project did not take place at that time.
Reynolds would play Dirk the Daring, the knight who ventures into the titular Dragon's Lair to rescue Princess Daphne. Roy Lee will produce. Bluth himself will also produce the film alongside Gary Goldman and Jon Pomeroy with a script from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark writers Dan and Kevin Hageman.
Reynolds will reportedly also serve as a producer under his own Maximum Effort label.
No planned release date for the film has been announced.
