Netflix has scheduled Extraction, its Chris Hemsworth-led adaptation of Joe & Anthony Russo, Ande Parks, and Fernando León González's Oni Press comic book Ciudad, for an April 24 release on the streaming service.
Based on a story by the Russos and Parks, Extraction tells the story of a mercenary who travels to one of the most dangerous places on Earth to rescue the kidnapped son of a powerful crime lord.
USAToday has the exclusive first look at images from the film, showing off Hemsworth's character Tyler Rake.
“You've got a guy who has a dark past and has done some very violent things as a way to make a living. The interesting thing about (Hemsworth’s) character isn't his physical bravery but his emotional cowardice," director Sam Hargrave explained.
“He's come to terms with the fact that his number could be up any second. The innocence and purity from this young kid reminds him that there's still more to do on Earth before he departs," added Hemsworth.
Hemsworth is no stranger to comic book movies, having played Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, with his next turn in the role scheduled for November 2021's Thor: Love and Thunder.
Extraction releases April 24 on Netflix.
