DC has announced its Free Comic Book Day 2020 offerings, leading with Generation Zero - a one-shot which ties in to the newly-revised DC timeline that became canon with Wonder Woman #750, and sets the stage for the "future of the DC Universe."
The lead story will be an epilogue to the current Flash Forward limited series - and, well, spoilers apparently - Wally West will be taking on the powers of Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan - get a look at that in the Generation Zero cover by Francis Manapul on the right.
Apparently, in the as-yet-unreleased #6 (due out February 16), Wally will apparently become the new steward of the Mobius Chair - which itself will be imbued with the infinite power of Doctor Manhattan. DC had solicited that the issue would have a "surprise ending", but it seems as it they themselves have spoiled part of that.
And what's more, DC official description of Generation Zero implies that it could ripple out in major continuity ways, saying "Wally West can see the past, present and future of the DC Universe all at once…Including what needs to be changed."
"The march towards DC’s future begins with Generation Zero! This 32-page issue features a stunning cover by Francis Manapul and features key stories involving Wally West, The Fastest Man Alive, and Wonder Woman, warrior princess from the island of Themyscira," reads DC's description of the story. "New and longtime fans can’t afford to miss Generation Zero; this book lays the foundation for even more seismic-level changes in the DC Universe.
"It all starts here, and everything counts. 'Flash Forward: Epilogue' is an extension of the unbelievable conclusion to the Flash Forward six-issue miniseries, with all-new content from the series team of writer Scott Lobdell and artist Brett Booth.
"In order to save his children and the multiverse itself, Wally West makes the ultimate sacrifice, taking his place in the Moebius Chair. Unbeknownst to him, the chair is packing a little extra power, having been imbued with the godlike powers of Dr. Manhattan! Now armed with infinite knowledge – and the powers of a god – Wally West can see the past, present and future of the DC Universe all at once...Including what needs to be changed.
Generation Zero will also include a reprint of of that DC timeline-redefining story from the recent Wonder Woman #750 by Scott Snyder and Bryan Hitch. In that story, Wonder Woman was retconed to be DC's "first hero" - by popping up in 1930 to save the life of then-U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt from an attempted assassination during the New York's World Fair.
"As a nation hears more about her heroic exploits, it inspires some citizens to consider their own unique gifts, and how they could be used to help protect the world – among them Alan Scott, who will become the first Green Lantern!"
Alongside Generation Zero, for Free Comic Book Day 2020 DC will release a middle-grade readers flipbook, featuring two tales of young Bruce Wayne and friends in Batman: Overdrive and Batman: Once Upon a Crime.
Free Comic Book Day will take place May 2.
