DC has informed retailers that February 26's Batgirl #44 will not include the originally-solicited story, but instead has a new story by the same creative team - writer Cecil Castellucci and artist Cian Tormey.

"BATGIRL vs. a DRAGON?! Everything in the magical realm of Unearth only exists when The Maker writes it onto his pages," reads DC's description of the new story. "So when he writes a dragon into existence that feeds upon the fear from new love, Jason Bard's feelings for Babs feeds the fire-breathing dragon! How can Batgirl have the courage to defeat such a dragon when courage itself is full of fear, but choosing to act in the presence of it irregardless? And when you die in Unearth, do you die on Earth?"

DC has also scratched the originally-solicited cover in favor of a new one, by the same artists, that fits this new story.

This is the second issue in a row in which a solicited story for Batgirl was later replaced with a new one.

The original solicitation for Batgirl #44 tied itself into the 2018 "City of Bane" story-arc from Batman.

"Gotham City lies in ruin after the events of 'City of Bane'!" it originally read. "Good neighborhoods have turned bad, and bad neighborhoods have turned worse. As Barbara Gordon’s friends and neighbors try to rebuild their homes, she faces a conflict she can’t win with her fists: 'Who Really Owns Gotham?' Batgirl intends to find out!"

DC did not give a reason for this change.
