Marvel Studios has begun staffing up for the promised sequel to 2019's blockbuster film Captain Marvel - but the co-writers/directors of the original film aren't returning with it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and directed the Brie Larson-starrer, are not anticipated to return for the sequel but are in talks for some future Marvel Studios' related work down the line with THR specifically mentioning "a possible Disney+ series." The Hollyood trade goes on to say that Marvel studios is aiming to find a female director for the second installment.

WandaVision story editor Megan McDonnell is reportedly in negotiations to script the Captain Marvel sequel, with a plan to set it in the present day. Coincidentally, a grown-up version of Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau will debut in WandaVision, played by Tyonah Parris.

The Captain Marvel sequel is reportedly being eyed for a 2022 debut, although no date has been specified. Disney has previously reserved three 2022 dates - February 18, July 29, and October 7 - for as-yet-unnamed Marvel Studios film. 2022 already has May 6 reserved for its Black Panther sequel.
