A purported synopsis for Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has surfaced on film industry site Backstage.
Backstage posts casting notices for productions taking place in London, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and other cities. The publication posted a synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as part of an announcement that casting for the film would take place soon for a 2020 production in the U.K.
"After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend-turned-enemy puts an end to his plans and causes Strange to unleash unspeakable evil."
If genuine, the purported synopsis raises some questions off the bat.
The "old friend-turned enemy" would likely be Mordo, who appeared to turn against magic in the finale of 2016's Doctor Strange. But more curious is the bit about the Time Stone - considering the "present day" Infinity Stones were destroyed in Avengers: Endgame, and the past Stones returned to their own timelines.
Of course, it is the "Time" Stone, so that could add to the narrative chicanery - and it is also possible Strange would be investigating the energy the stone controlled, even if the stone no longer exists in concentrated form.
The purported synopsis also doesn't address the presence of Wanda Maximoff in the film.
Marvel Studios has not released an official synopsis or full cast list publicly for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, due out in theaters May 7, 2021.
