Scott Derrickson is no longer directing Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
"Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences," Derrickson tweeted. "I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as [Executive Producer]."
The studio echoed Derrickson's statement.
"Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences," a Marvel spokesperson told Variety. "We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”Derrickson also said the decision was mutual."
Variety went on to report that Marvel has not changed the production schedule, and aims to begin filming this May for a May 2021 release. The studio has reportely already begun seeking a replacement director.
The film, written by Jade Bartlett, would see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as Stephen Strange, joined by Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) - whose Disney+ series WandaVision is said to tie into the film.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to open in theaters May 7, 2021.
