Director Andy Muschietti's Flash movie will still adapt the story Flashpoint, but not in the way fans might expect.
Muschietti confirmed his film would be based on the 2011 crossover that rebooted the DC Universe into the "New 52" era, telling That Hashtag Show it would be a "different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting."
Muschietti offered no further details of the story for his film. Flash was previously announced as being based on Flashpoint at Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2017, before Muschietti was signed on for the film.
In comic book continuity, Flashpoint led to a wholesale reboot of the DC Universe, which has naturally led to speculation that the film adaptation could have the same effect - at least in part - on the DC Film continuity that was last directly referenced in November 2017's Justice League.
Flash is scheduled for a July 1, 2022 theatrical release.
