MIGHTY MARVEL MARCH 20201 of 12
Marvel's March 2020 solicitations have arrived, and the start of spring also marks several new beginnings at Marvel.
From a new herald of Galactus, to a new villain team, to a second group of Guardians of the Galaxy and more, there's a ton of exciting happenings waiting in the wings.
As usual, Newsarama has dug into the newly-unveiled Marvel solicits to run down all the major news you need to know - right here, in one convenient spot.
GOD LOVES, MARCOS MARTIN KILLS2 of 12
In March, artist Marcos Martin will produce a series of X-Men-themed variant covers based around the 1982 graphic novel God Loves, Man Kills.
The variants, for Wolverine #2, X-Men #8, Excalibur #9, New Mutants #9, X-Force #9, and Marauders #9, cover most of the "Dawn of X" line - but what's the impetus to honor this particular story now?
The solicits themselves don't indicate exactly why (is an 18th anniversary special these days?), but perhaps the stories inside X-Men comics in the month of March will harken back to that classic tale, which formed the basis of the film X2.
CREATIVE MARVELS3 of 12
Alex Ross' curated Marvel anthology series has started to take shape.
In addition to Ross, Kurt Busiek, and Steve Darnall, the solicitation for the series' first issue names a whole host of creators throwing in - including Steve Rude, Sajan Saini, and Frank Espinosa.
STARLIGHT CITADEL4 of 12
Excalibur will venture further into Otherworld - and into the Captain Britain mythos - with March's Excalibur #8 and #9 taking the team to the Starlight Citadel.
For those not in the know, the Starlight Citadel is the seat of power for the Omniversal Guardian - Opal Luna Saturnyne - and her army of defenders, the Captain Britain Corps.
VILLAINS UNITED5 of 12
Earth's Mightiest Heroes have been fighting similar squads of supervilains pretty much since the Avengers have been a team - and now March's Avengers #32 will introduce a new cadre of villains.
Though they haven't got a cool name or uniforms, the team-up of Namor, Dracula, Red Widow, Hyperion, Nite-Hawk, Mephisto, and Ursa Major brings together many of the big threats the current team has faced so far - into a group that may be too deadly to defeat.
WEST SPIRAL ARM GUARDIANS6 of 12
A four=part story told with four artists in March's Guardians of the Galaxy #3 introduces Marvel's latest farm team - the "West Spiral Arm Guardians."
Obviously taking a cue from the classic West Coast Avengers spin-off team, the identities of the new squad aren't revealed in the solicitation - but it is implied they might just have a friendly rivalry with the Guardians we know and love.
IRON AGE7 of 12
Next year's Iron Man 2020 event is starting to take shape, with new information about spin-off series 2020 Rescue and 2020 Iron Age (yes, that's how the titles are stylized now).
In Rescue, Pepper Potts will have to suit up to save Tony Stark from a "meltdown" - presumably stemming from the event's plot.
Then, Iron Age will compile multiple tales set in the event's "Robot Revolution" and, starring Machine Man, Alkhema, and Doctor Shapiro.
STRANGE MAGIC8 of 12
Magic may be shifting in the Marvel Universe again this March.
First, in Valkyrie: Jane Foster, ancient Asgardian magic will bubble to the surface with the Røkkva, long-lost primal magic that may even corrupt Thor to fight Jane Foster.
Then, as previously announced, Doctor Strange will open a magical school in March's Strange Academy #1 - the just-released solicitation for which states the Marvel Universe has "changed in such an alarming way" that it's effecting Strange's own attitudes toward magic.
ROAD TO EMPYRE9 of 12
2020's Marvel event Empyre remains a bit of a cipher - the exact plot hasn't been revealed yet. But March's solicitations shed some light on what's coming - and start the story with a flashback to the Kree/Skrull War.
In Road to Empyre: The Kree/Skrull War, the ins and outs of the ages old conflict will be examined in the wake of this month's Incoming! one-shot, which "changes everything" for the Kree and Skrulls.
While Incoming!'s plot is also still under wraps, it does involve Teddy Altman/Hulking - heir to both the Kree and Skrull empires.
DR. DRUID10 of 12
Modern fans may have no memory of Dr. Anthony Druid. He's been dead in continuity since the 1980s, with only the briefest cameos in the intervening years. But, for a brief time, he was a key part of the Avengers - even betraying the team to Kang before his death.
Now, March's Dr. Strange #4 will bring Dr. Druid back under mysterious circumstances - and from the looks of things, it won't exactly be a happy reunion between him and Strange.
GALACTUS CALLS11 of 12
Over the years, Galactus has had many heralds to guide him to worlds suitable for consumption - and in March's Thor #4, the hunt begins again. But this time, the stakes might be even bigger than just one world.
The solicit for Thor #4 says that Galactus is searching for a new herald - but not just anyone will do. He's gotta find someone suitable for not just the end of a world, but the end of days entirely - "the end of everything."
And it seems Galactus might just see Thor as the right guy for the job.
