DC has announced plans to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Robin with a "super spectacular" that will pay tribute to not just the original Dick Grayson, but also the likes of Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, and Stephanie Brown. (For our ranking of the Top 10 Robins, click here.)
On March 11, the publisher will debut Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular - done in an anthology format similiar to the recent Action Comics #1000 and Detective Comics #1000.
Creators from various Robins' past will return for new short stories - including Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett, Chuck Dixon, Scott McDaniel, Devin Grayson, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Tim Seeley, Tom King, Mikel Janin, James Tynion IV, Peter J. Tomasi, and Judd Winick. There will also be pin-ups from artists such as Kenneth Rocafort, Nicola Scott, Andy Kubert and Frank Miller.
Robin originally debuted back in Marh 6, 1940's Detective Comics #38 to offer a teenage vantage point on the hero to the overwhelming teenage audience the publisher wanted to attract.
Lee Weeks and Brad Anderson have created Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular's primary cover, with decade-by-decade variants from Jim Lee/Scott Williams (1940s), Julian Totino Tedesco (1950s), Dustin Nguyen (1960s), Kaare Andrews (1970s), Frank Miller (1980s), Jim Cheung (1990s), Derrick Chew (2000s), and Yasmine Putri (2010s).
