New Line Cinema's planned Shazam! sequel has landed on an April 1, 2022 release date - the same weekend frame the original opened earlier this year.

Shazam! 2 will open just over three months after the December 22, 2021 debut of Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam movie.

First reported by Deadline, Shazam! 2 slides into a spot previously occupied by Warner Bros.'s reservation for an 'untitled WB event film'. To date, no other movies have been announced for this date - although its a week prior to Sony Pictures Animation's untitled Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

With this, there are now four DC films planned for 2022 - Shazam! 2 (April 1), DC Super Pets (May 22), The Flash (July 1), and Aquaman 2 (December 16).

Shazam! 2 will open just over three months after the December 22, 2021 debut of Dwanye's Johnson's Black Adam movie.

The original Shazam! grossed $364.5 million at the box office worldwide, off a $100m budget. Writer Henry Gayden, director David F. Sandberg, and titular star Zachary Levi have been previously reported as returning for the sequel.
