Warner Media has scheduled the still officially untitled Matrix 4 for a May 21, 2021 theatrical release - a date previously set for director Taika Waititi's live action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga and anime Akira.
As for Akira, that film has been removed from WB's schedule entirely (via Deadline). It's unclear if it will be rescheduled. Production on Akira was reportedly previously put on indefinite hold to accomodate Waititi's schedule for Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder.
The Matrix now shares a date with Lionsgate's fourth John Wick film - both of which star Keanu Reeves.
Warner has also rescheduled its Mortal Kombat reboot film, moving it forward from a March 2021 release to January 15, 2021.
