Marvel Entertainment's dedicated television division, Marvel Television, is being absorbed into the Marvel Studios division, according to Variety. Citing unnamed sources, the Hollywood trade reports that "a number of positions" will be eliminated, with the remaining others shifted over to Marvel Studios - who will now act as the sole division for both film and television.
Marvel Television has two live-action shows in production - ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (which is scheduled to conclude in 2020) and Hulu's Helstrom (anticipated to debut in 2020), and a third - Runaways - will end with its December 13 season 3 release.
On the animation side, Marvel Television has five shows in development for Hulu (Howard the Duck, Hit Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, M.O.D.O.K., and The Offenders) and one for Disney Junior (Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends).
Marvel Television's Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb is reported to remain with the company during the transition, despite previous reports by the same trade that he was expected to leave in November 2019. Loeb has been the division's head since it was founded in 2010.
Senior VP of Current Programming & Production Karim Zreik will shift over to Marvel Studios according to Variety, as well as unspecified "members of his team". As for others? It doesn't sound promising.
"According to sources, multiple Marvel Television and Home & Family Entertainment executives at the vice president level and above outside of Zreik’s team will be replaced as a result of the move," Variety reports.
Marvel’s Senior VP of Animation and Family Entertainment Cort Lane, who works on animation under the Marvel TV umbrella, is reportedly leaving in January 2020.
