Abe Forsythe has been tapped to replace the recently-departed director Neill Blomkamp for MGM's Robocop Returns, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Forsythe, who is best-known for the recently released zombie comedy Little Monsters starring Lupita Nyong'o, is reportedly re-writing the current script by creators Ed Neumier, Michael Miner, and Justin Rhodes.

Robocop Returns will act as a direct sequel to the franchise's 1987 original film, discarding subsequent sequels similar to the recent Halloween and Terminator films.

MGM has not announced a release date for RoboCop Returns.
