The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Scienceswill be hosting a special event centered on Katsuhiro Otomo's classic anime Akira later this year.
On Monday, December 2, Akira will be screened at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California as part of its annual Marc Davis Celebration of Animation.
Following the screening, the Academy will host a star-studded panel to talk about the film. The scheduled panelists are director Jorge Gutiérrez (Book of Life), production designer Justin Thompson (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), director Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania), animator Randy Haycock (Moana), and writer/artist Peter Chung (Aeon Flux).
The Academy will also be exhibiting selections from the recent Akira collection donated to their MArgaret Herrick Library, which includes animation cels, drawings, and other material from the making of the film.
Tickets to this event are $5 for general audiences, and $3 for Academy members and students.
