A day after one Game of Thrones prequel was reportedly canned, the other Game of Thrones prequel was greenlit for a full season on the May 20-launching HBO Max streaming service.
As reported by Variety, George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood novel will be adapted as Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon. Set 300 years before the recently-completed TV series, the show would focus on the House Targaryen.
HBO Max have ordered a 10-episode first season spearheded by Ryan Condal and MIguel Sapochnik.
"The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories," said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. "We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George."
HBO Max is scheduled to launch in May 2020, however the launch date of House of the Dragon has not been specified.
