Walt Disney Pictures has hired a writing duo to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Chernobyl creator Craig Maizin is reportedly working with long-time Pirates screenwriter Ted Elliott.
Although described directly as a "reboot," the Hollywood trade doesn't close the door completely on Johnny Depp reprising his role as Jack Sparrow.
This is the second reported attempt at a reboot, following the 2018 hiring of Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
No release date has been set.
