Friday Disney announced new details regarding their previously-announced Disney+ Marvel's 616 documentary anthology series for the upcoming streaming service.
Actor Gillian Jacobs (Community) will direct the first episode, which will be produced by Chef's Table documentarians, the Supper Club.
"From the perspective of what it means to be a woman in what’s perceived to be a male-driven industry, 'Higher, Further, Faster' will shine a light on the trailblazing women of Marvel Comics and explores how they found ways to tell stories of representation and inclusion." reads Disney+'s description of the announcement episode.
The announcement came as part of a larger presentation given Friday to the International Documentary Association on the service's nonfiction content strategy.
Disney+ went on to announce Jacobs will be joined by Paul Scheer, David Gelb, and Andrew Rossi, among others, to direct additional episodes.
"The episodes will focus on a range of topics including an intimate look at the cosplay community, Marvel’s influence and relationship with hip-hop, illustrators who live and work internationally, and following a high school theater production of Marvel and Disney’s 'Spotlight' program."
Here's how Disney+ previously described Marvel’s 616, which will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning in 2020.
"Marvel's 616 is an anthological documentary series exploring the intersection between Marvel's rich legacy of stories, characters and creators and the world outside your window. Told through the lens of a diverse group of filmmakers, each documentary will dive into the rich historical, cultural and societal context that has become inseparable from stories of the Marvel Universe. The series is produced by Marvel New Media in partnership with Supper Club. Executive produced by Joe Quesada, Stephen Wacker, Shane Rahmani, John Cerilli, Harry Go and Sarah Amos for Marvel and David Gelb, Brian McGinn and Jason Sterman for Supper Club."
Disney+ launches November 12.
