Actor/comedian/game show host Wayne Brady is joining the cast of CW's Black Lightning, according to Variety.
Brady will reportedly play Tyson "Gravedigger" Spikes, whom the Hollywood trade describes as "a World War II-era member of the U.S. military who became a “super soldier” after a secret experiment gifted him with enhanced strength, agility, tactical genius, and hand-to-hand combat expertise. After the war, Spikes defected to the country of Markovia rather than return to a segregated America."
In comic books, Tyson "Gravedigger" Sykes (not 'Spikes' as Variety has it) is the third DC character to go by the name Gravedigger. Created by Greg Rucka, Erica Trautmann, and Joe Bennett in 2008, Gravedigger is a Checkmate operative who obtains telephathic abilities after injecting himself with a concoction called Apocritic, made out of Starro DNA.
Wayne Brady currently hosts CBS' Let's Make a Deal and appears on CW's Whose Line Is It Anyway?. The comedian, who is often associated with Drew Carey, has a surprising comic book past - he had a small role in the early 1990s syndicated live-action Superboy, and years later voiced Micron in Batman Beyond.
Brady will reportedly appear in the second half of Black Lightning's current third season, beginning in early 2020.
Black Lightning airs Mondays on the CW.
