Actor Tom Welling will reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman from the longrunning Smallville Superman prequel series for CW's upcoming Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths," as first reported by Deadline.
The Hollywood trade states that the crossover will "reveal what happened to the character almost ten years after Smallville," though it remains to be seen whether Welling will appear as Superman.
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” said Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim in a statement. “So when we first started talking about 'Crisis on Infinite Earths,' our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Two other actors who have played Superman, Supergirl's Tyler Hoechlin and Superman Returns' Brendan Routh, will also portray versions of the Man of Steel in the crossover, with Routh potentially appearing as a live-action version of the Kingdom Come Superman.
"Crisis on Infinite Earths” will crossover Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman in a five-episode event, with three episodes airing in December and the remaining two airing in January.
