Mike Mignola will be exhibiting eight paintings at this weekend's Lightbox Expo in Pasadena, California.
"A couple of these paintings were in my show at the Society of Illustrators in New York last year, but this is the most that have ever been shown at one time (the current plan is eight)," Mignola told Newsarama. "All were done just for fun, though one we did end up using as the cover of the Hellboy in Hell Library Edition."
Mignola took up watercolor painting in 2017 as part of a hiatus from comic books following Hellboy in Hell. The artist spoke about it with Newsarama here.
"Of the paintings I’ve done these [going to Lightbox Expo] are my favorites, and I think a few of them are the best things I’ve ever done," Mignola continued. "I should be doing more. Hopefully people who see them will say nice things and that will be the shot in the arm I need to get back to it."
Lightbox Expo is at the Pasadena Convention Center from September 6 to 8.
