Remember November1 of 12
November marks the second month of Marvel's 'Dawn of X' X-Men relaunch - and the return of the 2099 setting.
But that's just scratching the surface of what we discovered in Marvel's November 2019 solicitations. Read on for the full run down of everything we learned.
Could She Be Worthy?2 of 12
The solicitations for Gwenpool Strikes Back have been purposefully exaggerated (for example, #1 teased that she’d “unmask” Peter Parker but that was merely a gag in the story) – but there’s something potentially big and fun brewing in Gwenpool Strikes Back #4.
The solicitation for that issue teases Gwen wielding Mjolnir – which, if it happens even for a moment, would be pretty big deal.
Carnage Plus3 of 12
Not long ago, a one-shot titled Captain America & Wolverine: Weapon Plus established a hidden history of the secret super science program that included links to several Marvel characters with no prior connection to the Weapon Plus program – including Venom.
Now, November’s Absolute Carnage: Weapon Plus #1 seems to follow up on that mystery linking the symbiote known as “Grendel” – which may even bond with the Wolverine/Hulk mash-up Weapon H.
Just a few more stories like this, and Weapon H will be a regular Combo Man.
Earth's Mightiest Guest Artist4 of 12
Artist Dale Keown will draw November’s Avengers #26, which will head back in time for another tale of the Avengers BC.
This story will focus on the caveman version of the cosmic-powered Starbrand.
Runaways Ran Away5 of 12
Later this year Marvel’s “non-team” the Runaways will make the jump to being full-on superheroes. But according to the solicitation for November’s Runaways #27, their move to outright heroism may have some unforeseen costs.
Specifically, the solicit states that to become ‘Doc Justice and the J-Team,’ they’ll have to “leave one of their own behind.”
Could the missing members be Gert and Old Lace, as appearances seem to suggest?
Missing Titles6 of 12
Marvel's November solicitations include several missing titles that were solicited in September and October, but which are nowhere to be found in November's solicitations.
Specifically, Punisher isn't solicited for November with the last solicited issue being October's #16. Likewise, Superior Spider-Man was last seen with October's #12, while a collection of issues #7-12 is due out in November.
And then there's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which hasn't been solicited since September's #47. Meanwhile, Marvel Comics Presents was also last solicited in September with #9, as was Marvel Team-Up with #6.
A one-month break is a skip-month, but two? Something is up.
Sins of the Mother7 of 12
Sue Storm-Richards – the Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman – is one of the purest hearts in the Marvel Universe, dedicated to family, discovery and saving the world.
So what could she do that would “horrify” Reed and her kids?
That’s the question of November’s Invisible Woman #5, the solicitation for which says Sue “steps over a line that would horrify her family” in the course of her S.H.I.E.L.D. mission.
Back in Black8 of 12
Natasha Romanov isn’t the only Black Widow, and in November, another graduate of the Red Room will return as Nat calls on Yelena Belova in Web of Black Widow #3.
And Yelena will be coming back just in time to make the jump to the big screen, played by Florence Pugh in next year’s Black Widow movie.
The Doctor is In9 of 12
Marvel’s mighty, menacing Doctor Doom is all over the publisher’s November solicitations – but in some surprisingly contradictory ways.
First up, over in Doctor Doom #2, he’s depowered and on the run for an act of evil he didn’t commit. But over in Strikeforce #3, he’s squaring off against the black ops superteam while possessed by a demonic foe.
We’re not complaining – more Doom is good Doom. But it’s a little jarring to see two wildly different (and high profile) portrayals of an iconic character in one month.
Oh - and a future version will also appear in Old Man Quill #11.
Guess Who10 of 12
Speaking of supervillains, a classic enemy may return with a twist in November’s Captain America #16, as the solicitation says an “old foe with a new face” is behind the murder of a New York cop and the tension that follows.
The solicit and cover don’t give any further info – but going out on a limb, could this be the return of the Red Skull, perhaps with the evil Steve Rogers of Secret Empire under the grim, grinning death mask?
Conan Universe11 of 12
Conan is all over the Marvel Universe this November – and we mean that literally.
From his Conan 2099 one-shot to an apparent sojourn to Latveria in Savage Avengers #7, Conan will make the round to many extant corners of Marveldom.
But that’s not all – a much bigger journey may be in Conan’s future, as the solicit for November’s Conan the Barbarian #11 ominously reads “Conan is dead! Long live Conan!”
