Hellboy will make his wrestling debut next month in Japan.

No, this isn't fake. It's promotion for the home video release of the recent Hellboy film in Japan.

All Japan Pro Wrestling has announced Hellboy will team with Jake Lee and Koji Iwamota against Takao Omoro, Black Menso~Re and Hokuto Omori in a six-man tag team match. The match will be part of AJPW's 2019 Summer Explosion: Final Battle event taking place September 3 at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall.

AJPW has not specified who would portray Hellboy in this gimmick match, however the promotion bills Hellboy as 6'9" and roughly 500 pounds. Hellboy's Red Right Hand of Doom will be allowed to be used in the match.

While certainly unique, it isn't the first time a comic book superhero has wrestled in actual matches. In the 1960s, Tony Marino wrestled as "Battman" in the WWWF - even tagging with WWWF champion Bruno Sammartino. In 1990, Go Nagai's popular superhero manga Jushin Liger was the basis for a tie-in NJPW character wrestler, Jushin "Thunder" Liger.

Hellboy has had numerous matches in Dark Horse's comic books, including severa Lucha Libre-themed matches in Mexico.
