Source Point Press' Dead End Kids #1 is going back for a second printing after the series' first issue was sold out - and in a rare move, the actual sales numbers are being released.
Dead End Kids co-creator/writer Frank Gogol has shared that Dead End Kids #1 was sold out at the distributor level one week before the book's July 31 debut, despite a roughly 20% overprint by the publisher.
"In the case of Dead End Kids, the initial orders were 2383, so Source Point Press printed 3000 to allow for some reorders," Gogol said. "When the reorders came in a week before the book's release, they were in excess of the remaining 617 copies and the full order could not be fulfilled."
Although Gogol said the publisher didn't give him exact figures, "the excess was possibly as high as ~500 copies over what was available, so close to 1100."
With that, Gogol and Source Point Press have decided to go back to to press on Dead End Kids #1, setting August 19 as the order cut-off before they decide on the second print run amount.
"So, the second print numbers will be determined by the Diamond order that comes in when pre-orders on the second print close," Gogol said. "I imagine Source Point Press will do ~20% over the number that comes in, like they did with the first print run."
Gogol estimates the Dead End Kids #1 second printing will arrive in stores on September 11.
