Updated August 24, 2019: Captain Marvel actor Gemma Chan has become the first MCU star to be recast in a major role, taking the part of Sersei in Marvel's Eternals. The announcement was made during Marvel Studios' Saturday panel at Disney's D23 Expo.

She previously played Kree warrior Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel.

Sersei is the latest major Eternals character to be cast for the film - and one of the most prominent in Marvel lore, with a long association with the Avengers. In comic books, she also has ties to the Circe of Greek Myth, who was featured in Homer's The Odyssey.

Eternals is scheduled for a November 6, 2020 theatrical release.

Original Story: Captain Marvel alum Gemma Chan is in talks for a role in Marvel Studios' The Eternals, according to Variety. The Hollywood trade, however is unsure if Chan would be reprising her role as the Kree warrior Minn-Erva or would be playing a new, "completely different role."

Although rare, Chan wouldn't be the first actor to have two roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films: Beneditch Cumberbatch played both Doctor Strange and Dormammu; Laura Haddock played Meredith Quill and an unnamed fan of Captain America; and Martin Starr played a computer person in Incredible Hulk and then Mr. Harrington in the Spider-Man movies, to name a few.

The Eternals is set to hit theaters November 6, 2020.
