Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has set his sights on helming another comic book movie, the just-announced Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.

Interestingly, Leitch's connections to the Blade franchise run deep - he was a stuntman in 1998's original Blade film.

“I love Blade. And it's actually one of the first stunt jobs that I was in, the original Wesley Snipes one," Leitch told ScreenRant. "I was a stunt performer in that movie. I was in the blood club. You remember that scene? Yes, dancing around in the recycled special effects blood. It was great.”

“[Mahershala Ali] is such a great actor, and I've been fortunate to work with some great actors, and I never go wrong that way," Leitch continued. "Having him play that role is a big deal and would be really exciting. So, yeah, I would love to have that conversation."

The rebooted Blade was announced at Comic-Con International: San Diego with Ali in the title role. No further details of the production were announced.
