DEL TORO's HELLBOY 3 Was Almost a Comic Book - But MIGNOLA Said 'No'

Before Hellboy was rebooted on film, Guillermo del Toro, who directed the first two Hellboy films, was at work on a third movie. Though it didn't come to pass, del Toro did try to put it together as a comic book - but Hellboy creator/owner Mike Mignola pulled the plug.

"I think del Toro mentioned it to me once, and I said no," Mignola told ScreenRant regarding the Hellboy 3 comic book adaptation. "I think, let the comics be the comics. Comics are confusing enough for people. Let's not have two different versions of the Hellboy comic out there. My vote would be (to say) no."

Mignola's Hellboy has followed a single comic book continuity, with the main story of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. recently coming to a close - however, Dark Horse has and is publishing historical limited series and alt-continuity spin-offs for Hellboy such as Itty Bitty Hellboy.

No film sequel for the reboot has been announced.
