Deadline is reporting that DC's Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will return as Superman in the CW's Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
The online trade says Routh (who plays Ray Palmer/the Atom in CW's shows) and Tyler Hoechlin will both portray Superman in different time frames during the event.
Hoechlin joined the Arroweverse in 2016, playing Superman on Supergirl. Hoechlin has reprised his role on several occasions, including the 2018 "Elseworlds" crossover.
Routh starred as the Man of Steel in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns in 2006 - framed at the time as a thematic sequel to Richard Donner's Superman films.
Deadline reports Routh will play both Clark Kent/Superman and Palmer/the Atom in the crossover, although they don't specify if Routh's Superman will be regarded as the same Superman from the film.
Deadline - who expects the news to be officially announced at Comic-Con - says its "not clear yet in which episodes of the crossover Superman will be played by Hoechlin and in which he will be portrayed by Routh."
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will crossover Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman in a five-episode event, with three episodes airing in December and the two airing in January.
