Sony Pictures Animation has optioned Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose's horror anthology comic book Hungry Ghosts for an animated TV series, as announced at the Annecy Animation Conference in Annecy, France (via Variety).

The series was announced by Sony Pictures Animation Vice Presidents Katie Baron and Kevin Noel, who described the Hungry Ghosts animated series as "an anthology of frightening, hilarious, twisted, and culinary-inspired ghost stories."

Hungry Ghosts was published by Dark Horse's Berger Books imprint and featured the work of a variety of artists, depicting chefs relating culinary inspired tales of terror to scare each other.

Along with Hungry Ghosts, SPA's presentation included an update on the previously announced revival of Aaron McGruder's Boondocks animated series, now described as a "reimagining" in which the Freeman family faces off with their old nemesis Uncle Ruckus, now a corrupt politician.

No premiere dates for Hungry Ghost or Boondocks were reported.
