Kieron Gillen is set to receive an honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University later this month. According to the university, Gillen is receiving the doctorate for his "outstanding achievements and acclaim" in comic books, and "the role he plays in addressing issues of importance to students and young people."
Gillen is among five to receive the the English university's Award of Honorary Doctor of Arts.
“We are delighted to be connected with people who play a crucial role in talking up our City, our region and its people and who deserve the honor for the tremendous work they do," said the university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes.
Gillen's award is scheduled to be given out Wednesday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. local time during student graduation ceremonies.
"Our awards ceremonies are celebrations of achievement that our graduates, their families and friends will remember for the rest of their lives," said Barnes. "They are made all the more special by the awarding of honorary degrees to inspirational people who share in the University’s values and who help us to drive up education and skills."
