Writer Jerrod Carmichael has signed on to adapt the 2014 Django/Zorro crossover comic book into a live-action movie, according to Collider. The original Dynamite/Vertigo crossover was a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's 2012 film Django Unchained, with a plot by Tarantino, script by Matt Wagner, and then drawn by Esteve Polls.
Set years after Django Unchained, the Django/Zorro story finds the slavery-era hero living near Chicago with his wife, Broomhilda. While continuing his work as a bounty hunter, his latest job leads him to meet Zorro as an older man. The two get along, with Django signing up to help Zorro in freeing local Native Americans from slavery.
"I’m very very excited about both this story and the opportunity to work with Matt,” Tarantino said in a 2014 press release. “It was reading his Zorro stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting new chapter for both characters."
No studio is confirmed to be involved at this juncture, however leaked emails from the 2014 Sony hack revealed that Tarantino had been involved in talks with the studio about a film adaptation.
