Warren Ellis and Jason Howard's creator-owned series Trees is on the schedule to return this September with a new #1. Tree: Three Fates #1 (of 5) is scheduled to debut September 11, picking up from August 2016's Trees #14.
"Trees is back on the publication schedule. I wrote it all ages ago, Jason is currently drawing the last episode of the story, by the time the thing comes out it'll all be long done," Ellis wrote on his weekly newsletter, Orbital Operations. "And I've got to tell you, it's got some of Jason's best art ever."
Ellis and Howard took a break from Trees to pivot for Cemetary Beach, which is being collected in a trade paperback due out June 5. In this new volume of Trees, it follows a police sergeant investigating a murder at the foot of one of the alien Trees which landed on Earth years ago.
"In the remote Russian village of Toska, there's a dead body by the leg of the Tree that landed eleven years ago," reads Image's solicitation for #1. "Police sergeant Klara Voranova, still haunted by that day, has no idea how this murder will change everything - nor what awaits her in the Tree's shadow."
Ellis said this arc was written to be Trees #15 through #19, but "Image thought it would work better as a branded serial."
