Amanda Conner has been named as the 2019 recipient of the Joe Kubert Distinguished Storyteller Award. Handed out by Lloyd Briggery Saturday at the Comic Con Revolution event in Ontario, California, the award is intended to recognize "outstanding comic book creators who exemplify both Joe Kubert's artistic talent and his commitment to nurturing the comic book community."

"I am so incredibly honored to have been chosen for this Award. To this day, when I’m in the midst of creating a story, I still go back to the lessons that Joe taught when we were students of his. There were many 'A-ha' moments when Joe was teaching, and they still help shape my work now," Conner said. "Telling stories visually was probably the lesson that stuck with me the most. He was a master at it, and I hope to be able live up to that, and to carry on that great tradition for a whole lot more decades!"

Conner attended the Kubert School from 1983 to 1985, studying under Joe Kubert and others.

"I couldn’t be happier and more proud of this year’s recipient of the Joe Kubert Distinguished Storyteller Award. Amanda is not only an exemplary example as one of my father’s protégés and Kubert School alum, but she upholds the epitome of what he taught and what he brought to the art of storytelling," said Andy Kubert.  "Amanda not only has taken what my father passed down to her and run with it, but totally surpassed it. As when every time he mentioned Amanda, my father would be beaming with pride now."

"If my Dad were here he'd say 'Well deserved, Kiddo' to Amanda give her a hug and then slap Jimmy on the back," said Adam Kubert.

The Joe Kubert Distinguished Storyteller Award is awarded annually during Comic Con Revolution's Ontario, California show. In 2018, Stan Sakai was recognized with the award.

"I can’t think of a better way to honor the legacy of Joe Kubert than by the three-pronged project we’ve undertaken with the Kubert School," said Comic Con Revolution Co-Founder Mike Scigliano.  "Amanda Conner is a perfect choice to receive this recognition."
