A female-frontied Fast and Furious spin-off starring Charlize Theron is in development at Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as part of a plan to "Avengers-ize" the Fast and Furious franchise, this prospective film would have Theron reprise her The Fate of the Furious role of Cipher. In that eighth Fast and Furious film, Cipher was a cyberterrorist who blackmails Dominic (played by Vin Diesel) to work against his friends. Dominic eventually breaks free of his deal with Cipher, but Theron's character escapes during the film's climax.
The first Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw, is scheduled to hit theaters August 1. A ninth core Fast and Furious film is scheduled for release April 10, 2020.
