And thus begins the age of the spoiler trailer.
Deadline reports the the new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home released Monday drew the biggest digital launch in Sony Pictures history with 135.2 million views in its first 24 hours.
The film's first trailer released in January reportedly already held Sony’s previous 24-hour record (130 million views) and in now third place is the first trailer for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming (116 million views).
While second trailers usually don't outdraw first trailers, the unusual spoiler warning the studio (or was it Disney?) placed on it with star Tom Holland and the key plot elements it revealed about Avengers: Endgame and maybe the MCU moving forward seems to have goosed interest, so moviegoers may have witnessed the birth of a new Hollywood marketing tool.
While a record for Sony, it's hardly a record for the Marvel cinematic universe. The recognized all-time record for an online trailer launch is Avengers: Endgame at 289 million view in its first 24 hours.
Spider-Man: Far from Home opens July 2 in North America and there are reports it will be get an earlier launch in some overseas territories.
