Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo may be taking time off from superhero movies now that Endgame has been released - but the addition of characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four whose film rights will soon come to Marvel Studios may just be enough to bring them back in.
“I think the universe is becoming more and more diverse, which we’re really proud of,” Joe Russo told The Hollywood Reporter. “Especially now that the Fox characters are coming into the universe. There are a lot of stories to tell.”
But will the Russos be the ones to tell them? The directors have stated previously that they'll move on from superhero movies now that Avengers: Endgame is in theaters - but it seems there is a Fox-character related movie they'd be willing to come back to make.
"Not until they're ready to make Secret Wars," Joe Russo said of a potential return to the MCU back in November, 2018.
And that's not the first time the Russos have invoked Marvel's first crossover event as a possible big screen adaptation.
"If Disney's takeover of Fox is completed, it's a lot more characters to work with at once," Russo said in April 2018. "It might be interesting to see something like Secret Wars."
Most of Marvel's upcoming films remain unannounced, however the recent Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer does introduce the potential of an MCU Multiverse (though with Mysterio involved we're not exactly holding our breath ) - meaning that the stage could be set for a full on Secret Wars involving the formerly Fox-controlled X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.
