Avengers: Endgame has now attained the unique record of being the most-talked-about movie ever on Twitter, according to Entertainment Weekly. The social media platform tracked over 50 million tweets about the film, including those from fans as well as those involved in the film.
That would trump the previous record holder, Black Panther, which in March 2018 was named by Twitter as the most-tweeted-about film ever with over 35M (via The Guardian). That record seemed to hold through the end of 2018, as Entertainment Weekly reported in December 2018 that Twitter's year-end figures still had Black Panther at #1.
EW contrasts Endgame's achievement jokingly with 2009's Avatar, which holds the record for biggest box office with $2.787 billion. Twitter was around in 2009 of course, but was not as ubiquitous as it is in 2019. Three months after Avatar's release, Twitter boasted a then-record 50 million tweets per day on the platform to the Telegraph.
Bringing that full circle, 50 million was a record number of tweets about everything in 2010 - now it's a record just for Avengers: Endgame.
