A sequel to Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal is scheduled to debut May 25 in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in Japan, according to Mantam Web. Titled Mugen no Junin - Bakumatsu no Sho (which translates to English roughly as Blade of the Immortal: Bakumatsu Arc), the new serial will by written by Kenji Takigawa and drawn by Ryu Suenobu; although Samura isn't writing or drawing the new project, he is reportedly involved in the development.

In this sequel, lead character Manji comes out of retirement to face off against the strongest warriors of the time.

Plans for a North American translation have not been announced.

Samura's original Blade of the Immortal ran in Monthly Afternoon from 1993 to 2012, and was reprinted in Dark Horse for North America. The series was adapted into a 2008 TV anime, and a 2017 live-action film.
