Cort Lane, Marvel's Vice President of Animation and Family Entertainment, has a unique insight into the future of Marvel Animation - inlcuding which Marvel Comics stories could make their way to the animated format.

While most of what's coming soon for Marvel Animation won't be announced til later this year, Lane did reveal to Newsarama that he keeps an eye on the Marvel Comics stories that might work for one of the studio's various ongoing and in-development projects - and he confessed he's got his eye on one story Marvel Comics readers have also been hotly anticipating.

"The one I’m really looking forward to that I think would be very interesting for us is War of the Realms," Lane said succinctly, referring to the ongoing Marvel Comics Thor-centric crossover by writer Jason Aaron and artists Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson.

In the ongoing War of the Realms comic book event, the evil Dark Elf Malekith leads an army of monsters cobbled together from different worlds to conquer the Ten Realms of the Marvel Universe Asgardian cosmology - including Earth/Midgard.

Though this is not indication that any War of the Realms-related animated project is in active development, it's notable that a current, ongoing story would be under consideration for its potential as an animated adaptation even as it's being published.

Marvel Animation's Avengers Assemble: Black Panther's Quest, the latest incarnation of its Avengers animated series, wrapped in February - could War of the Realms be the right story to kick off a new animated version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes when the time comes?
