Stellan Skarsgard, who has portrayed Dr. Erik Selvig in four Marvel Studios films, says he won't reprise his role in Avengers: Endgame.
"No I’m not. I’ve done four [Marvel films] and they have me contracted for five and they haven’t called me yet," Skarsgard told Metro.co.uk. "They usually call me when they need some weird plot to be explained in a quasi-scientific way."
Skarsgard's statement that he's contracted for five films is not unusual. It could mean that Selvig may return in another film set in the post-Endgame MCU - perhaps in the potentially-in-the-works Thor 4.
Meanwhile, Linda Cardellini, who portrayed Clint Barton's wife Laura Barton in Avengers: Age of Ultron, is keeping mum on whether she's part of Endgame.
"I am not allowed to confirm nor deny," Cardellini told The Hollywood Reporter. "But I do get to go to the premiere. So, that will be fun."
Cardellini's presence at the premiere could indicate a role in the film, though it would not be out of the ordinary for her to attend despite not having a role.
But - why would she not be "allowed to confirm nor deny" unless she had a role? If she didn't - like Skarsgard apparently doesn't - wouldn't she be free to talk about it? Or is she playing coy, herself?
We'll see when Avengers opens in theaters April 26.
