Mark Strong says he turned down the X-Men: First Class role of Sebastian Shaw, which eventually went to Kevin Bacon. Strong revealed that writer/director Matthew Vaughn, who the actor worked with previously on Stardust, gave him first dibs on the role.

"Matthew Vaughn did ask me to do X-Men: First Class. There was a bad guy in X-Men that Kevin Bacon played," Strong told ComingSoon. "Because I speak German it just seemed so logical having worked with him that I would play that part, but I think at that point we both felt… I think I had just done Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes and it had been just too many bad guys very recently. So that one we didn’t go down the path of that."

Strong has played numerous villains (and comic book villains), to the point that he parodied it in a 2014 Jaguar commercial for the Super Bowl.

Strong will next be seen in this week's Shazam! as the villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
