Captain Marvel's villainous Skrulls are known for their shapeshifting ability, which allows them to infiltrate Earth society under the guise of humanity. And now, the secret human identity of Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, has been revealed.
Light Captain Marvel spoilers ahead.
In Captain Marvel, Talos' human identity is that of Nick Fury's commanding officer in S.H.I.E.L.D. - though his name hasn't been revealed just yet.
The secret was revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Though Mendelsohn didn't get into specifics about the role, he did discuss the power of playing a Skrull in the film.
"That big, green scary pig’s head is doing a lot just by being there. It’s sorta like the effect of seeing a snake; the snake doesn’t necessarily have to do a lot to be something that you’re going to watch out for. Just seeing that big reptilian head has an effect," Mendelsohn explained. "I thought about Robert Patrick [in Terminator 2] quite a bit! That’s just such a great benchmark for the piece. But, the mechanics of what go on between the Terminator stuff and the Skrulls are markedly different. I did dive back to the earliest Skrull appearances. You think about how they started their lives and what their job was in the Marvel world back at that time."
Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8.
